If you ever look at a map of all the shipwrecks that surround The Outer Banks, you’ll know exactly why it’s known as “the Graveyard of the Atlantic.”

There’s even a museum named that in Hatteras. The Lost Colony of Roanoke also started out in nearby Manteo and Dare County is named after Virginia Dare. In case you didn’t know, she was the first English person born in America.

And when thinking of places to visit in North Carolina, the first thing that comes to many people’s minds is an Outer Banks vacation. If not for a week, you have at least a weekend in mind. Please don’t tell our friends elsewhere on the coast, okay?
