– Hendersonville is the county seat and it’s joined by the incorporated towns of Fletcher, Laurel Park, Mills River, and the Village of Flat Rock, among multiple unincorporated communities.

– In 1997, the area’s DuPont silicon plant closed. Some of the land owned by the company was sold to the State of North Carolina. The land was transformed into DuPont State Recreational Forest, managed by the North Carolina Forest Service. 

It has grown to a 12,500 public space shared with Transylvania County. Visitors can explore more than 80 miles of multi-use trails and roads. Hollywood movies such as the first Hunger Games have filmed here.
