As the name suggests, Berliner Kindl German Restaurant serves authentic German cuisine in Black Mountain. The quaint place strives to incorporate authentic German traditions and culture into its setting, with German sayings and signs.
The menu consists of German specialty dinners, German sausage platters, and a variety of sandwiches. What makes Berliner Kindl even more unique is the in-house deli and gift shop.

Black Mountain Bistro
Address: 203 E State St, Black Mountain, NC 28711
Black Mountain Bistro is led by 5-generation area natives and is a wonderful place to grab some delicious Southern fare, a burger, something for the kids, and an adult beverage for you.
Food is prepped fresh each day for an individual meal and for larger-scale events that this Black Mountain restaurant caters.
Black Mountain Kitchen & Ale House
Address: 117-C Cherry St, Black Mountain, NC 28711
The secret ingredient at Black Mountain Kitchen & Ale House is community. This restaurant has been focused on cultivating a community even before its inception.
In 2011, John Richardson opened Black Mountain Ale House as a way to create the sense of belonging in Black Mountain that was lost when the bar John previously worked at closed.
Since then, it has expanded into Black Mountain Kitchen & Ale House, and it’s a place where locals and visitors alike come for delicious food, beer, and community. The menu consists of chicken wings, burgers, and salads, as well as 19 rotating taps from local and regional brews.
Blue Ridge Biscuit Company
Address: 601 W State St, Black Mountain, NC 28711
The Blue Ridge Biscuit Company is committed to providing the best breakfast experience in Black Mountain. Their signature breakfast biscuits are renowned around the town, made fresh every morning and served in a variety of ways.
You can’t go wrong with a regular biscuit, but you may also be interested in “The Lookout” biscuit, which comes with fried chicken and gravy, or “Mountain Mama” with its grit cakes and honey spread.
In addition to their great biscuits, Blue Ridge Biscuit is a valuable member of the community as they support other small businesses in any way they can.
For example, they source their coffee from local brands like AppalaChai! and Dynamite Roasting Company, as well as outsourcing their kitchen to small business ventures.

Cousins Cuban Cafe
Address: 108 Broadway Ave Black Mountain, NC 28711
For delicious and authentic Cuban food, Cousins Cuban Cafe is the best in the area. This restaurant is owned by cousins who hope to bring their family’s Cuban cultural heritage and cuisine to the Black Mountain community.
Cousins Cuban Cafe infuses its cultural roots into the entire menu. Diners can enjoy a breakfast that incorporates Cuban toast, bread, and pastries, and choose from lunch options like Cubanos and tapas.
The cafe’s welcoming environment, paired with its rich savory food, makes it one of the best restaurants in Black Mountain.
Address: 221 W State St, Black Mountain, NC 28711
The Dripolator Coffeehouse is a charming and cozy cafe that has been serving Black Mountain since 1999. It’s the perfect place to ease into your day, as the coffee is delicious and the people are wonderful.
In addition to traditional coffee and tea, the Dripolator also serves smoothies full of nutrients to carry you through the day. Other menu options include frappes, hot chocolate, and yummy pastries.
For some extra fun, choose a drink from the seasonal menus, such as the Maplecchino or Falala-latte.
Address: 120 Broadway Ave, Black Mountain, NC
Foothills Grange is a restaurant and bar that has been part of the Black Mountain sphere for two decades. From 2002 to 2014, the operation was a family farm that sold wholesale meat to local markets and restaurants.
Since then, Foothills has opened multiple locations in Black Mountain and Asheville to bring their products directly to their customers.
Foothills Grange in Black Mountain has enough seating for 250 people, with the main building offering 16 drinks on tap and an outdoor space with covered picnic tables, a patio, and even a kids’ play area.
The food, which can be ordered from the outdoor food truck, is just as refined, with a classic menu of burgers, specialty sandwiches, and tallow fries. Foothills Grange isn’t just a restaurant or a bar; it’s an experience.
Fresh Wood Fired Pizza & Pasta
Address: 100 S Ridgeway Ave, Black Mountain, NC 28711
The Artist/chef-led Fresh Wood Fired Pizza & Pasta is easily one of the best restaurants in Black Mountain. Locally sourced ingredients power their wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas, sandwiches, and pastas.
On a busy weekend, we highly recommend getting your order in as early as possible because the word is certainly out about this wonderful eatery.
There’s a second location in West Asheville, too, in case you find yourself reminiscing about Chef Mark’s creations in the city!
Address: 115 Black Mountain Avenue, Black Mountain, NC 28711
Another great option for breakfast or lunch is Louise’s Kitchen. Open until 2 PM daily, Louise’s offers a menu of all-day breakfast and tasty lunch entrees.
Breakfast includes French toast, pancakes, and quesadillas, while lunch consists of sandwiches, soups, and salads.
Begin your day with a coffee on the outdoor covered porch and enjoy the atmosphere. Visit on Sundays for a unique brunch experience with added menu items!
Mac’s Burgers & Cheesesteaks
Two Locations: 103 S Ridgeway Ave #1, Black Mountain, NC 28711 & 104 West St, Black Mountain
You can enjoy Mac’s Burgers & Cheesesteaks either at their location near Town Square or their food truck outside Lookout Brewing.
Regardless of which spot you choose, this is the best Black Mountain restaurant for burgers! Of course, “Cheesesteaks” is in the name, too, and we won’t leave those out of this write-up.
Order a Philly the way all northerners know them or grab a Mac Daddy, which adds bacon to an already powerful sandwich.
Milton’s Cuisine & Cocktails
Address: 308 W State St, Black Mountain, NC 28711

My Father’s Pizza
Address: 110 Cherry St, Black Mountain, NC 28711
My Father’s Pizza has been a pillar of Black Mountain since 1990 when Larry and Diana Robinson first opened this pizza place. At first, the business relied on carry-out and delivery orders, with just a few seats for dine-in.
However, by 1995, the restaurant had grown so popular that My Father’s Pizza had to move to its current location, quadrupling the dining capacity and increasing the kitchen tenfold.
In 2010, one of the servers, Micki Cowan, bought the restaurant, essentially keeping it “in the family” as she had over 25 years of service to the business.
Today, My Father’s Pizza is operated by Micki’s daughter and maintains its presence in the community. The extensive pizza and pasta options are beloved by all who visit.
A meal here is guaranteed to be a satisfying experience, especially if you sit on the outdoor patio and take in the beautiful mountain views.
Open Oven Brunch and Bakery
Address: 102 Church St, Black Mountain, NC 28711
For the best start to a fulfilling day of exploring, we strongly recommend Open Oven Brunch and Bakery. Open Oven is a cozy and authentic spot that combines the very best of brunch and baked goods.
Their expansive menu includes waffles, eggs Benedict, omelets, sandwiches, and more. Take one of their fresh bakery items to go as a snack for later.
Open Oven is closed on Tuesdays. During the rest of the week, they offer indoor and seasonal outdoor seating.
This brunch place is one of the liveliest restaurants in Black Mountain!
Address: 104 WNC Shopping Center Dr, Black Mountain, NC 28711
Pepperoni’s sits west of downtown along Old US-70 and is not to be overlooked among the best restaurants in Black Mountain.
You can stop by and eat in their store or order delivery for you, your friends, and your family.
My preference is wings and a pizza with a salad to start. Pepperoni’s delicious calzones and pastas make choosing even harder.
Phil’s Bar-B-Que Pit
Address: 701 NC Hwy 9, Black Mountain, NC 28711
Since 2007, Phil’s Bar-B-Que Pit has been Black Mountain’s premier BBQ place. Phil’s was opened by couple Phil and Jackie Garrison, who wanted to bring their favorite BBQ flavors and dishes from their home state of Alabama to North Carolina.
Today, the couple’s son Bradley and his wife Alexandra operate the restaurant.
The menu at Phil’s is a BBQ lover’s dream. Choose from slow-smoked ribs and BBQ sandwiches and burgers, as well as wings, nachos, and more.
Phil’s is a great place for a filling and tasty meal after a day of exploring Western North Carolina.
Smoke (Black Mountain Brewing)
Address: 131 Broadway Ave, Black Mountain, NC 28711
One of our first Black Mountain experiences was at Smoke, which sits behind Black Mountain Brewing.
Their shareables and sandwiches perfectly pair with any of BMB’s 7 rotating taps. Personally, the Pulled Pork is our favorite but you can’t go wrong either way at Smoke!
Of course, you can always take home a pint of pulled pork after sampling something else from the menu.
Trailhead Restaurant and Bar
Address: 207 West State Street, Black Mountain, NC 28711
Mingle with locals and visitors alike at the Trailhead Restaurant and Bar! It’s the go-to eatery for an assortment of delicious foods and unique brews.
The menu covers everything from bar food like burgers and sandwiches to entrees like tacos and seafood.
What makes the Trailhead even more unique is that they name their dishes after nearby hikes and waterfalls. Try Hickory Nut Falls, a steak that comes with several sides, or Linville Falls, a fried chicken sandwich on a brioche bun.
