Hanging Rock State Park (and Places Nearby)

Here’s our map that shows Hanging Rock State Park and the places nearby that we mentioned. Phone service gets very spotty as you approach the park.

This and the crowds who seek waterfalls are why we recommend you start by plugging in Lower Cascades Waterfall, getting there as early as possible, and then heading into the main park entrance for hiking.

Greenville and Pitt County

This map shares the location of hiking trails near Boone, Blowing Rock, and Banner Elk. The major outlier is Stone Mountain State Park, sitting to the easy away from many of the other hikes.

Over the years, we’ve seen so many waterfalls in North Carolina, especially during incredible hikes across the state. That’s why it’s only natural to make a list of the best and our personal favorites!

Waterfalls near Asheville, Brevard, and Cherokee

Hundreds of waterfalls near Asheville, Brevard, and Cherokee await, and in being real, we know it will take a long time for you to see them all. Our map shares some favorites that we’ve seen so far, but check back as we do plan to update this one for many years to come!

The High Country also hosts some amazing waterfalls near Boone, Blowing Rock, and Banner Elk to accompany the amazing hiking trails in the area.

Highlands Waterfalls (and More Things to Do)

You could easily spend an entire trip in Highlands, hanging around the cozy downtown. However, the town is surrounded by some awesome waterfalls (including Dry Falls and others along the Waterfall Byway) and more things to do in its surroundings.
