About the North Carolina Travel Writers Behind NC Tripping

This is where you can find more information about the North Carolina travel writers behind NC Trippingโ€”Carl Hedinger and Christina Riley.

For questions about working with us or partnership opportunities, please reach out here. Now, letโ€™s share a little bit more about ourselves with you.

Carl Hedinger and Christina Riley are the travel bloggers behind NC Tripping and its sister site Travel Through Life. After years of living abroad, we’ve called North Carolina โ€œhomeโ€ since 2015.

Our story was also spotlighted here:

Why Did We Build NC Tripping?

We built this site to share what we find with prospective North Carolina travelers and residents. If that includes you, we’d love to welcome you and challenge you to complete our NC Bucket List.

Statesville-based Spokeology created our Logo.

From our base in Durham, we’ve shared hundreds of travel guides that cover our favorite places to visit in North Carolina, including specific focuses on these regions:

We also share interesting and fun facts, interviews on our podcast (more coming soon!), food, and everything else about the Tar Heel State.

You can subscribe to our email newsletter to see how much we love it here!

Published Work and (almost) Awards

Not only do we enjoy sharing our travels in NC with you here, but our writing and Christina’s photographs have also been featured in regional magazines like Charlotte Happenings and Durham Magazine, and worldwide publications such as Huffington Post, Travelocity, Orbitz, Matador, and more.

We’ve also been nominated for awards including “Best Local Interest Website” on Indy Week and “Best Website” on WRAL.

Carl Hedinger: Writer/Editor

I played with maps, globes, and anything else that showed me the world. After years of seeing places worldwide, I’ve learned that there are so many beautiful places and people inside those maps.

Today, I still have a ton of maps, but most of them feature places in North Carolina. I’m always excited to find a new road or corner that we haven’t seen before.

Beyond that, I’m a lover of hikes and waterfalls, pop culture, music made by people from around the world (not just North Carolina), international food (especially Korean food), history, and obscure sports trivia.

Christina Riley: Photographer/Social Media/Writer

North Carolina is unlike any other โ€œhomeโ€ Iโ€™ve ever lived in. There are the mountains of Western North Carolina, the wonderful coastal plain of Eastern North Carolina, and even a lot of beautiful places in between.

Iโ€™ve yet to find a piece of North Carolina that I donโ€™t love!

You will usually find me nerding out about food in North Carolina. A failed chef, but an enthusiastic foodie, I’ve shunned my Northern roots and have fully adapted to the grit life!

Oh, and if it were up to me, we’d be having barbecue every day!

Our Little Sidekicks

Each trip we take isn’t just for us. It’s also to show our little ones just how much there is to see.

But if you follow us on social media, you’ll know that she’s usually leading the way.
