After visiting more than a few spa resorts in North Carolina, we think Lakeview at Fontana is among the best.
Tucked up above the treetops, this is the ultimate relaxation spot for friends, family, and solo travelers. For starters, you can enjoy unbeatable views of Fontana Lake from one of the resort’s treetop soaking tubs.
Of course, if you have more time, extend your stay by several days in one of their exquisite rooms.
We’ll share all of these details and more in this guide to Lakeview at Fontana.

Treetop Soaking Cabanas
The treetop soaking cabanas are most certainly the star at Lakeview at Fontana! Two secluded and open-air cabanas are available to book.
Including a stand-alone tub that is large enough for two and signature bath salts, their soaking cabanas may be the most romantic thing to do in North Carolina.
Here are five things we love about them.
Fresh Air and Epic Views
Breathe in the fresh mountain air and take in the view. Soaks are 90 minutes long, and there are a variety of options to choose from.
The Signature Soak
The signature soak is one of them and includes Lakeview at Fontana’s own essential-oil infused salts and luxurious Turkish towels. We recommend upgrading your soak to either include champagne, CBD-infused salt, or spa treatments.
Perfect for Hot and Cold Days!
Lakeview at Fontana is great on both hot and cool days! Enjoy a cooling soak on a hot day after hiking or snuggle up with a Sherpa robe in cold weather! There is really no bad time to soak at Lakeview at Fontana.
It is important to note that the cabanas are located on a wooded hillside and do require stairs along the wooded trail.
Also, you have complete privacy during your rental. At the time of our rental in 2021, check-in was contactless and easy. I think this really helped us shift into a more relaxed mindset once at the cabana!
If you want to uplevel your experience, book a massage with your cabana! Enjoy a relaxing massage, hot towel, or a hand and foot massage.
Lakeview at Fontana Guest Rooms
The guest rooms at Lakeview at Fontana are simple and relaxing. The rooms reflect the former 1950s motor court that once stood here with bright whites and airy windows.
Guests also have access to a pool, a hiking trail, and a WiFi lounge (there is no wifi in the accommodations). Inside the WiFi lounge, there are various kitchen items available for guests to borrow and sundries for your comfort.
One of my experiences with Lakeview at Fontana was as a gift for my father. I booked him a soaking tub for his 70th birthday and I think a visit here is the perfect gift for any occasion.
Lakeview at Fontana also offers gift certificates, in case you’d like to purchase a future visit for someone special!
Personally, I can see a gift certificate to Lakeview at Fontana as an excellent wedding gift or for tired, stressed-out moms! But, even if you aren’t local to Bryson City, the soaking cabanas are so luxurious that it makes for an excellent reason to take a trip!

Lakeview at Fontana Location Info
Address: 171 Lakeview Lodge Dr, Bryson City, NC 28779
For reservations and booking info, please visit Lakeview at Fontana’s website.
As we mentioned, you can reach it via US-74 between downtown Bryson City and the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) inside Nantahala National Forest.
While US-74 is not always busy, we think arriving from the NOC is easier because you’ll make a right-hand turn without worrying about traffic from the opposite direction.
You can see Fontana Lake surrounded by trees and the beautiful Smoky Mountains, even from the Lakeview welcome area.
More Things to Do in Bryson City (and Nearby)
In case you’re spending more time in the area, you may want to get out and explore your surroundings in and around Bryson City.
Downtown Bryson City is a walkable collection of local shops and restaurants.
The town can get crowded on nice warm days, especially when the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad unloads its passengers! We’ve actually paired our visit to Lakeview at Fontana on the same day as riding the train, and it was pretty spectacular!
Additional things to do in Bryson City include hiking the Deep Creek trail and kayaking or hanging around by the river at Nantahala Outdoor Center.
Keep following US-74 toward the NOC but turn right onto NC-28 and you’ll drive alongside Fontana Lake. This is the largest lake in Western North Carolina and pretty fantastic place to boat.
You can rent a pontoon boat, kayak, or just enjoy the water views. Fontana Dam is also a pretty spectacular thing to see in person, and you can even drive across it!
Closer to Bryson City and away from the dam is The Road to Nowhere, which tells the story of Fontana Lake is a different way.
With the creation of the lake, several communities were displaced with a couple even going underwater. They had been promised a road to connect them to their communities but it was never completed. This tunnel is the end of that story and is frequently visited.
