As we mentioned, you can reach the Lakeview at Fontana Bryson City via US-74 between downtown and the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) inside Nantahala National Forest.

More Things to Do in Bryson City (and Nearby)

In case you’re spending more time in the area, you may want to get out and explore your surroundings in and around Bryson City.
Downtown Bryson City is a walkable collection of local shops and restaurants.
The town can get crowded on nice warm days, especially when the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad unloads its passengers! We’ve actually paired our visit to Lakeview at Fontana on the same day as riding the train, and it was pretty spectacular!
Additional things to do in Bryson City include hiking the Deep Creek trail and kayaking or hanging around by the river at the Nantahala Outdoor Center.

Keep following US-74 toward the NOC but turn right onto NC-28 and you’ll drive alongside Fontana Lake. This is the largest lake in Western North Carolina and pretty fantastic place to boat.
You can rent a pontoon boat, kayak, or just enjoy the water views. Fontana Dam is also a pretty spectacular thing to see in person, and you can even drive across it!
Closer to Bryson City and away from the dam is The Road to Nowhere, which tells the story of Fontana Lake differently.
With the lake’s creation, several communities were displaced, and a couple even went underwater. They had been promised a road to connect them to their communities, but it was never completed. This tunnel is the end of that story and is frequently visited.
