Outdoor Activities in North Carolina
We say this a lot but it’s true. North Carolina is blessed with amazing natural beauty, leaving more than enough outdoor activities for folks who visit and live here. Look east and you’ll find the ocean, our beaches, and Intracoastal waterways. Now, look west and remind yourself of the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains, waterfalls, and hiking trails.
There’s all of that and even more in between. And whether you’re out on the open road, exploring open-air museums, or hiking, you’ll agree with us. In fact, seeking out all these amazing spots is a big part of why we created our North Carolina bucket list, which is always growing by the way!
Road Trips
First, we’ll start with road trips because, in North Carolina, we’ve got some great ones! These ways to get outside include day trips, which we’ve defined as drives that one can take to places within one to two hours away.
Hiking Guides
And then there are all the spaces we have for hiking. They include state parks, national forests, city greenways, and simple stops along our highways. We’ve created one massive guide to hiking in North Carolina that you can read here.
If you’re looking for specific places to go hiking, we’ve created more than a few guides to our favorites. They include the wonderful trails in the High Country, awesome hikes near Asheville, elsewhere in Western NC, and throughout Central NC and the coast.
Outdoor-Friendly Museums
As parents, it’s great to have access to such awesome museums as we have in North Carolina. But an added bonus is that many of them have outdoor spaces, with many as vast as you’ll find anywhere in the country or the world.
