The always-popular North Carolina Trail Days in Elkin (NC Trail Days) celebrates the outdoor recreation opportunities that await in the area.
The small town of Elkin headlines the event because of its reputation as a “trails town,” and because it sits at the junction of three state trails. Hiking is one of our favorite things to do in Elkin and we created this guide to share more about NC Trail Days and how you can enjoy it, too!

What is the North Carolina Trail Days Event?

Event Info
Elkin is home to a proud and active community if you’re unfamiliar with the area. The town’s resurgence in recent years is largely thanks to its amazing and always-improving trail system.
NC Trail Days started as a way to recognize the trails that await and has grown to a four-day event.
The annual event, which includes the neighboring town of Jonesville, coincides with National Trails Day, held on the first Saturday of June.

How to Enjoy North Carolina Trail Days in Elkin!
NC Trail Days includes the following fun things to do:
- Organized and self-guided hikes: Throughout the weekend, you can enjoy area trails on your own or by joining an organized hike. Carter Falls (pictured above) is one of our favorites in the area and we hope you get to check it out!
- Mountains-to-Sea Trail Through-Hike and Paddle: New to 2024 is a through-hike and paddle along segment six of our awesome North Carolina Mountains-to-Sea Trail.
- Rock Climbing at Pilot Mountain State Park
- Exploration and Cleanup of the Yadkin River
- Kid Friendly Events including Trout Fishing and Cycling
- Educational Talks by community leaders
- Regional Vendors showcasing their gear, art, and more
- Live music, as well as local wine, beer, and food
