Renovation funding was authorized by the NC General Assembly and Governor Roy Cooper.

While the physical museum will be closed, digital resources will remain available to students and educators. Virtual programs and live events will be offered to the public, too.

Interim Director of the NC Museum of History and Division of State History Museums Brad Wilson commented on the renovations, excitedly saying, “We’re embarking on an incredible journey, and what awaits us on the other side is nothing short of extraordinary—reimagined exhibits that will bring North Carolina history to life.”
