Summer is such a busy time of year and these 4th of July events in NC are another great example! 

The Fourth of July in North Carolina is a wonderful time, full of bucket list-worthy celebrations, parades, fireworks, and more fun. To help you celebrate July 4th in NC, we’ve compiled a list of events from the mountains to the sea.

Keeping in tradition with the rest of our site, we’ve organized this guide to July 4th events in NC by region, starting in Western NC and moving east before ending up on the coast.

Each section is organized alphabetically by city to make planning this iconic American holiday easy for you.

Western NC 4th of July Events

We start this guide in the mountains, discussing how to enjoy the 4th of July in Asheville and elsewhere in Western NC. Events are alphabetized by the city and are held solely on July 4 unless noted otherwise.

Unless noted, events are free to attend.

Fourth of July in Asheville NC

If you’re lucky enough to spend July 4th in Asheville or nearby Black Mountain, we hope you can attend one of these fun events.

Lake Julian Fireworks at Lake Julian Park

If you already have July 4 plans, you can still attend Lake Julian’s fireworks show! This year, due to challenges with the fireworks supplier, the show will be on June 29.

However, it’s the perfect kick-off to a fun-filled weekend, with food trucks available all day.

Omni Grove Park Inn Fireworks

Celebrate a day early with fireworks at the Omni Grove Park Inn! On July 3, the luxury hotel lights up with live music and fireworks at 9:00 p.m.

Downtown Asheville Fireworks

2024 Event Date: July 4, 2024

This FREE event in the South Slope (between Coxe and Buxton Avenue) starts on July 4 with The Ultimate Air Dogs (puppy jump contest) from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The fun in downtown Asheville continues with food and live music at 4:30 p.m., and fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

Fourth of July in Banner Elk NC

2024 Event Date: July 4, 2024
Event Info

The town of Banner Elk celebrates the Fourth with its annual Independence Parade at 11:00 a.m. The parade starts at Lees-McRae College and winds through downtown, ending in the town park with a party with food vendors, games, and a rubber duck race.

Independence Day Celebration in Beech Mountain NC

2024 Event Date: July 6, 2024
Event Info

Join the Beech Mountain community on July 6 at 5:00 p.m. for its Independence Day Celebration, complete with a cookout, kid’s activities, live performances, and more.

If Birds Could Fly and DJ Pete Welter are the night’s headliners, playing throughout the evening. Kids can also have fun with inflatables, face painting, Twist the Balloon Man, crafts, and more.

The fireworks show is the unforgettable finale of an entire week of celebrations across Western NC!

4th of July in Black Mountain NC

Beginning at dusk on July 4, The Town of Black Mountain presents a free fireworks display that will be visible from many areas near downtown.

They will be launched from behind the former Bi-Lo Grocery Store (205 NC Highway 9, Black Mountain, NC) and parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fourth of July in Blowing Rock NC

Blowing Rock is full of July 4th fun, starting with its annual celebration at Tweetsie Railroad.

Tweetsie Railroad Fireworks Extravaganza in Blowing Rock

Event Info

The July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza is also Tweetsie Railroad’s anniversary, so they celebrate with the largest fireworks show in the High Country. Guests with a general admission ticket can watch the fireworks for free.

July Fourth Celebration in Blowing Rock

Downtown Blowing Rock’s 4th of July parade and festival overtakes the mountain town. The day kicks off with a parade at 10:00 a.m., followed by a day of music and festivities.

Fourth of July in Boone NC

Downtown Boone‘s annual 4th of July parade starts at the King Street intersection with Poplar Grove Extension, heading toward its end at Legends on Hardin St. (around the corner from Dan’l Boone Inn).

After the parade, the Town of Boone continues the celebration on the lawn of the iconic Jones House Cultural Center. 

Later in the evening, fireworks will light up the sky from Clawson-Burnley Park at the Boone Greenway.

4th of July in Brevard NC

Shindig on Main is a wonderful community-focused celebration of Independence Day in Downtown Brevard. From 4:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., East Main Street will bustle with activities, entertainment, and patriotic spirit.

The July 4th event brings together locals and visitors to celebrate our nation’s independence with music, fun, and fireworks!

Bryson City Freedom Fest

Bryson City’s Freedom Fest is a full day of nonstop excitement and festivities. The holiday kicks off at 8:00 a.m. with the Firecracker 5k and the festival officially begins at 10:00 a.m.

Local restaurants and food trucks will be joining the fun, offering funnel cakes, shave ice, BBQ, and more.

The food trucks and live music will continue until 10:00 p.m. when the best fireworks show in the Smokies will commence!

Fireworks Extravaganza on The Green in Cashiers

The 10th annual Fireworks Extravaganza on The Green features live entertainment, family-friendly activities, and nighttime fireworks. Musicians include local favorites like the Cashiers Community Chorus and Caribbean Cowboys Band.

The event starts at 6:00 p.m., rain or shine, in the Village Green. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the show!

4th of July Powwow in Cherokee

Fourth of July in Hendersonville

Fourth of July in downtown Hendersonville is a jam-packed evening with multiple live performances, food trucks, and a kid’s activity zone.

There are two stages, the Historic Courthouse Stage and the Visitor’s Center Stage, and they will host constant performances throughout the day. Acts include JAM KIDS, Brightleaf Band, and Linda Goldsmith.

Revolutionary 4th in Kings Mountain

Revolutionary 4th in Kings Mountain honors both our country’s independence and the area’s important role in the Revolutionary War.

This 4th of July event takes place in Deal Park Walking Track at 6:00 p.m.

The festivities also include food, music, and special reenactments of the historic battle of Kings Mountain. At dark, the city puts on one of the largest fireworks shows between Asheville and Charlotte.

Gala Boat Parade in Lake Glenville

Fourth of July celebrations at Lake Glenville will kick off with the third annual Gala Boat Parade. Participants can form groups and decorate their boats for a chance to compete and win this thrilling race.

Following the boat parade, the 27th annual Fireworks Over Lake Glenville commences. Guests can watch from their boats or on land, and the fireworks start at 9:30 pm.

Independence Day Celebrations in Lake Junaluska

Lake Junaluska hosts many events throughout the year, but none is as fun as the Lake Junaluska Independence Day Celebration!

This four-day festival is packed with entertainment and fun. You can play golf, get out on the water with canoes, kayaks, or other rentals, go swimming, and float lanterns!

Lake Junaluska’s fireworks display occurs on July 3rd at 9:30 p.m.

Backyard Fourth Celebration in Maggie Valley

Maggie Valley’s Backyard Fourth Celebration will commence at the Maggie Valley Festival Grounds at 6:00 p.m. on July 4. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, and picnics to pass the time before the fireworks show at dusk.

The Maggie Valley Police Department will also be serving BBQ plates for $10.

Independence Day in Marion

Celebrate the holiday in downtown Marion with the Independence Day Celebration. At 6:00 p.m., a parade winds through downtown, followed by fireworks at 9:45 p.m.

Fireworks at Freedom Park in Morganton

2024 Event Date: July 4, 2024

The City of Morganton’s fireworks show will start at 9:45 p.m. at Freedom Park on Independence Boulevard. The park will be closed all day for set-up.

Local officials ask attendees to park in a safe place nearby to view the show. Of course, they encourage you to grab a good spot nearby and watch the city light up the sky in honor of our nation’s independence from Britain.

Marketplace Meltdown Independence Day Celebration in North Wilkesboro

Downtown North Wilkesboro’s annual July Fourth Celebration is known as Marketplace Meltdown! The Yadkin Valley Marketplace hosts the festivities from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with live music, food vendors, a balloon artist, a firetruck parade, and fireworks!

Heritage Festival in Robbinsville

2024 Event Date: July 4-5, 2024

Graham County’s Heritage Festival takes place in Robbinsville, drawing people from across the county and beyond. The celebration kicks off on Thursday morning and concludes with fireworks on Friday night.

Throughout the two-day event, attendees can watch magic shows, participate in watermelon-eating contests, try new foods, and more.

Sugar Mountain Fireworks

2024 Event Date: July 4, 2024

A mountain-top fireworks show from Sugar Mountain’s 5,300-foot peak begins around 9:15 p.m. on July 4.

The Summit Express Chairlift opens for the summer on July 4. During the fireworks show, it will run from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Ticket sales for fireworks viewing lift rides end at 8:30 p.m.

Classic Highway performs at the base lodge from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and food and beverages are available at the mountain’s base and beverages are available at the summit of Sugar Mountain.

Fourth of July Fireworks in Sylva

2024 Event Date: July 4, 2024

Sylva’s 10th annual Fireworks Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with a performance by Gotcha Groove, one of the finest bands in the Southeast.

The music will kick off at Bridge Park. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. and can be seen from various places downtown.

Freedom in the Grove at Blake Farms Family Resort

Blake Farms Family RV Resort in Union Grove (near Statesville and Wilkesboro) welcomes all to attend “Freedom in the Grove.” This FREE event will have food trucks, vendors, bouncy houses, a golf cart parade, and more!

Wood Family Tradition will start playing at 4:00 p.m., Carolina Detour (5:00 p.m.) and Dixie Dawn (6:00 p.m.) keep things moving, and TC Montana will headline the event at 7:00 p.m.

Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m., capping off a wonderful Independence Day celebration!

Independence Day Celebration and Summer Concert Series in Valdese

2024 Event Date: June 28, 2024

The town of Valdese will hold its impressive fireworks display on the football field of Old Rock School on Friday, June 28. This year, the Independence Day Celebration will be held in conjunction with the Valdese Summer Concert Series.

Main Street will close at 5:00 p.m. to prepare for the event. The Ryan Perry Band will take the stage at 7:00 p.m., guaranteeing an amazing Country performance.

Finally, one of Western NC’s most exciting fireworks shows will light up the sky shortly after dusk.

Stars and Stripes in Waynesville

2024 Event Date: July 4, 2024

The Stars and Stripes Celebration in downtown Waynesville begins in the morning with a Patriotic Kid’s Parade, followed by a procession of color guard, fire trucks, and a set by the local Haywood Community Band.

Between the mountains and the coast, you’ll find some of the biggest 4th of July events in North Carolina. Not to be outshined by the cities, the small towns of Central NC are also very proud of their Independence Day celebrations!

Fun Family Fourth of July in Aberdeen

The Moore County town of Aberdeen will celebrate Independence Day with an evening of live entertainment, food vendors, and activities for all ages.

The free event will also include a Kid Zone with a rock climbing wall, inflatable slides, bounce houses, an obstacle course, and more starting at 5:00 p.m. in Aberdeen Lake Park.

The evening will finish with one of the area’s largest and most exciting fireworks displays.

Fireworks Frenzy in Apex

Historic Downtown Apex hosts its annual Fireworks Frenzy on July 3, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with food trucks, kid-friendly activities, and fireworks at the end!

On July 4, Apex will hold its Olde Fashioned Fourth of July, starting at 9:00 a.m. with a flag raising and a welcome message from the mayor. After that and until 1:00 p.m., the town will have activities such as inflatables and slides, karaoke contests, face painting, and more.

The biggest city in NC shows off its patriotic spirit a couple of weeks before July 4. Here’s a breakdown of how you can spend the Fourth of July in Charlotte:

Charlotte Symphony Orchestra at Bailey Road Park

The first of the Orchestra’s two independence-themed concerts is the Bailey Road Park show on June 22. The symphony will play a variety of patriotic, classical, and pop performances, followed by a spectacular fireworks display.

Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Celebrate America!

A week later, the Charlotte Symphony will salute Independence Day with patriotic tunes from all musical genres. Food and drink are available throughout the concert, with a fireworks finale. Tickets are on sale on the site.

Carowinds Star-Spangled Nights Fireworks Spectacular

The already-sparkling Carowinds lights up even further with an unforgettable fireworks show on July 3rd and 4th. The show is visible from both sides of the South Carolina border, but you know we prefer the North Carolina side!

Fourth of July at the Whitewater Center

Join the Whitewater Center for two days of outdoor celebration. Enjoy live music, yoga, and 5k races, and buy a pass for access to the center’s recreational activities, such as whitewater rafting and zip lines.

SkyShow at Truist Field

Independence Day pits Minor League Baseball’s Charlotte Knights against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Following the game, Truist Field will put on one of the largest fireworks shows in the Southeast.

Fourth of July in Durham NC

One of our favorite July 4th events in NC happens to be in Durham, as it honors our neighborhood river. There’s also an amazing fireworks show held by the hometown Durham Bulls, and here’s a breakdown of both events.

Festival for the Eno in Durham

Address: West Point on the Eno, 5101 N Roxboro St, Durham, NC

Festival for the Eno (aka Eno Fest) is an iconic Durham event traditionally held at West Point on the Eno on July 4 and the closest weekend day before or after.

This year’s Eno Fest will kick off on July 4 and the second day is July 6. Gates open both days from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with shuttles running throughout the day from the Durham County Stadium.

Over 60 bands will perform on four stages around the banks of the Eno River.

Enofest is also known for its large, juried craft show featuring artisans from the region. Food vendors will be on hand, too, and there’s also a beer garden on site.

Advance tickets for two-day passes are $40 for adults and $15 for children 5-17. Kids under 4 are free. The event raises funds to increase awareness of natural resource conservation and protection of the Eno River basin.

Fireworks after the Durham Bulls Game

Baseball fans in the Triangle can enjoy Independence Day fireworks at the July 4th Durham Bulls game! The Bulls will play the Norfolk Tides at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

The game starts at 6:35 p.m., and hopefully, the Bulls will dominate. Fireworks are scheduled for 9:15 p.m. and will light up the skies around the DBAP and American Tobacco Campus.

FreedomFest 2024 in Elkin

The Town of Elkin’s FreedomFest kicks off on June 28, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Festivities include live music by Kris Hitchcock, food and craft vendors, kids activities, and of course, fireworks at the end!

Gastonia celebrates the Fourth of July throughout downtown and the Rotary Pavilion. Almost 60 vendors and booths will be set up throughout the festival, with food, boutique wares, and entertainment.

Fun Fourth in Greensboro

Downtown Greensboro is holding an all-day Fun Fourth celebration. The day begins with the 10K and 5K freedom runs at 7:30 a.m., followed by the Freedom Fest from 1:00-6:00 p.m.

Freedom Fest has something for everyone. The Central NC Fourth of July celebration features food vendors, crafts, and giveaways.

Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks at Kerr Lake

Kerr Lake near the NC-VA border hosts a lakefront fireworks show a few days after the Fourth of July. Watch fireworks over the water at the Kerr Lake Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks.

The event begins at 6:00 p.m. with a DJ and food vendors. Parking is $7 at Satterwhite Point Park.

Fourth of July in Lincolnton

The Fourth of July in Lincolnton features a parade and a terrific fireworks show. The streets close around 6:30 p.m. in preparation for the 7:00 p.m. parade, which overtakes much of the town.

The parade ends at Skip Lawing Dr and is followed by a fireworks display launching from City Park at 9:30 p.m.

Downtown Monroe’s Fourth of July Celebration is an evening of fun and excitement. Main Street closes to vehicle traffic at 5:00 p.m. and features bounce houses, food trucks, and a live band.

Stars and Stripes in Mooresville

Stars and Stripes on Main is Mooresville’s annual Independence Day Parade. The entire town dresses in red, white, and blue for this exciting patriotic event, which begins at 10:00 a.m. and winds its way through downtown.

Independence Day Parade & Celebration in Mount Airy

The Mount Airy 4th annual Independence Day Parade & Celebration starts with a reading of the Declaration of Independence in the Mount Airy Museum courtyard, followed by a parade at 11:00 a.m.

Pinehurst Independence Day Parade

Pinehurst’s annual Independence Day Parade kicks off at the Village Center and Tufts Memorial Park with a Pet Parade at 9:45 a.m., followed by the official parade at 10:00 a.m.

4th of July Fireworks in Raleigh

Raleigh’s 4th of July Fireworks celebration starts at 5:30 p.m. in Dorothea Dix Park. The park will be jam-packed with activities for all ages, with a family activity zone with water slides and a foam party pit, a food truck court with over 40 vendors, and stage entertainment.

The night ends with a countdown and a dazzling fireworks show.

Attendees are encouraged to bring refillable water bottles, a change of clothes for the kids, and blankets or chairs for the lawn. No alcohol is allowed, but snacks and picnics are.

Parking is available across Raleigh, and there is a free shuttle to the park from Moore Square that runs from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m.

Fireworks over Historic Spencer Shops

Fireworks over Historic Spencer Shops celebrate Independence Day amidst the backdrop of Spencer Shops’ historic institutions.

The NC Transportation Museum closes early to welcome visitors for the town’s celebration, with select buildings and exhibits remaining open to the public.

Fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m., but until then, the Museum offers various activities for families and attendees. Enjoy a balloon-twisting artist, a bubble show, DJs, a children’s crafts zone, lawn games, and rides.

The parade starts at 11:00 a.m. and features floats, marching units, motorcycles, military units, horses, and more!

Independence Day Celebration in Wake Forest

Wake Forest celebrates its 51st Independence Day Celebration with two days of entertainment, joy, and fun.

On July 3, the Tyson Brothers and Band of Oz take the stage at Heritage High School, followed by the fireworks show that will begin at 9:30 p.m.

July 4 in Wake Forest features a children’s parade and the Art in the Park artisan gallery.

Independence Day Parade in Waxhaw

Waxhaw’s annual Independence Day Parade is a traditional parade that overtakes downtown. The festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. on June 29 and continue until early afternoon.

Eastern NC 4th of July Events

4th of July in Atlantic Beach

Atlantic Beach’s 4th of July event starts at The Circle. Music by Robert McDuffy and friends will be played from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

After their set, Fireworks will begin promptly at 9:00 p.m.

Get there early to claim your spot on the beach. The fireworks are set off from the beach and can be seen throughout the Town of Atlantic Beach.

4th of July in Burgaw

The Town of Burgaw will be hosting its annual 4th of July Parade on Thursday, July 4th beginning at 10:00 a.m. Golf carts, bikes, rollerskates, pedestrians, and any other non-powered wheeled device are welcome to participate in the parade.

Town staff and members of the Beautification Committee will be giving out free popsicles and water following the parade on the depot dock.

The Burgaw Fire Department will also be participating in the festivities. The amazing first responders will set up the ladder fire truck to spray water for the kids to enjoy!

Independence Day Fireworks by the Sea & Boardwalk Blast in Carolina Beach

Carolina Beach’s Independence Day Fireworks by the Sea & Boardwalk Blast is, well, a blast! During this event, the Carolina Beach Boardwalk comes alive as visitors gather for a gorgeous fireworks display by the beach.

Live music starts at 6:30 p.m., with fireworks at 9:00 p.m.

4th of July in Fayetteville and Nearby

Home to Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg) and a huge veteran community, Fayetteville is a special place to celebrate the Fourth. Here are some events to follow for your Independence Day.

4th at the Fort (Fort Liberty)

4th at the Fort is Fort Liberty’s biggest event. This year’s 4th at the Fort features three big-name headliners, including Flo Rida, Plain White T’s, and Maddie & Tae’s.

Fort Liberty’s celebration also features a flag ceremony, parachute free-fall demonstrations, and vendors. Kids and families will enjoy Kiddieland, full of free and engaging activities for the young ones.

The night closes with an impressive fireworks show.

Free Independence Concert in Fayetteville

The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra and the City of Fayetteville will present a free-admission Independence Concert on July 4. Held in Festival Park, the gates will open at 6:00 p.m. and the music will commence at 7:15 p.m.

A variety of food vendors and a beer tent will be on-site, too.

Independence Concert and Fireworks in Hope Mills

On Saturday, June 29, join Fayetteville’s neighbor for its Independence Day Kick-Off. The evening will feature live music, over a dozen food trucks, face painting, pony rides, a petting zoo, and so much more.

June 29’s event ends with a Fireworks Show at 9:00 p.m., promising a glimpse of more to come on July 4th.

On July 4, Hope Mills continues its festivities with a parade at 10:00 a.m., starting at Rockfish Elementary and ending at Hope Mills Middle School.

Jacksonville is also home to many veterans and active-duty Marines serving at Camp Lejeune. During the 40th Annual Freedom Festival at Onslow Pines Park, you can celebrate the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

Fireworks Show in Kill Devil Hills

Another amazing Outer Banks town, Kill Devil Hills, also hosts a fireworks show on the beach. The show takes place from the gorgeous Avalon Pier, and spectators can relax on one of the nearby beaches to enjoy the show.

The Town of Manteo Fourth of July Celebration

The Town of Manteo Fourth of July Celebration will be held at George Washington Creef Park next to the Roanoke Island Maritime Museum. 

Bring lawn chairs, picnic blankets, or anything else to keep you comfy for a fun afternoon and evening. Manteo native Tshombe Selby, a tenor with the Metropolitan Opera, will kick things off by singing the National Anthem.

You can enjoy tons of fun games and activities, including a decorated bike contest and parade, an apple pie contest, food trucks, music, and more!

Fireworks at dusk will be provided by the Town of Manteo, lighting up the sky in patriotic style!

Fireworks Spectacular in Nags Head

As the name suggests, the Fireworks Spectacular at Nags Head is a spectacular show over the Atlantic Ocean. The fireworks launch from Nags Head Fishing Pier at MP 11.5 and are visible from beach towns miles away.

Ocracoke Island Independence Day Celebration

Ocracoke Island knows how to put on a show, and its Independence Day Celebration is another example.

The Fireworks show will be held on July 2 at 9:15 p.m. and launch from the National Parks Service Parking Area near the Village and Ocracoke Lighthouse. That parking lot will be closed from 5:00 p.m. on July 1 through July 2.

The festivities will continue on July 3 with a Fundraising Fish Fry for the Ocracoke Preservation Society from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

On July 4, and will include a sand castle sculpture contest at the NPS Lifeguard Beach from 9:30 a.m. to noon and the Ole Tyme Ocracoke-themed Independence Day Parade at 4:00 p.m.

NC 4th of July Festival in Southport and Oak Island

The NC 4th of July Festival has been held in Southport for over 200 years. The coastal town always outdoes itself with the week-long festival, which includes nightly live entertainment, competitions, food, arts and crafts, and kid’s activities.

Events will be non-stop from June 28 to July 4, with the festival including the nearby towns of Bolivia and Oak Island.

After a truly epic week, the NC 4th of July Festival will conclude on July 4 with fireworks at the Southport Waterfront Park.
